New Media Admission Requirements

Portfolio Content

Your portfolio consists of the examples of your work. The portfolio informs the New Media Department about your creative interest, experience, skills and direction. Choose your best work that provide a sampling of your practice and document it professionally. You may use images (jpg), video (mov, wmv, flv), music (mp3) and one document file with a maximum of 5 pages.

3 -7 Examples of Work

Submit examples of 3-7 current pieces (try to select from the past three years) that provide a good representation of your range of interests and skills in new media. You may submit more than one image of a single work if the work is large or complex.

Examples of the range of materials you can submit:

  • Video, animation, or audio based work
  • Photography (analogue or digital)
  • Digital Arts
  • Gifs, memes, blogs, social media pages
  • Writings for New Media

450 Word Cover Letter

In approximately 450-words, explain your definition of new media. Address the reasons why you decided to apply for the New Media Department.

The cover letter provides insight to the New Media Department about your background, experience, inspirations, and goals. For each of the following questions, you should provide an approximately 150-word statement per question:

  • Past: What aspects of your background prepare you for a university level New Media degree program with a creative focus?
  • Present: Explain why you feel you are prepared for the New Media program.
  • Future: What do you hope to learn from our New Media degree program?

Or, you can simply answer this single question in 450-500 words:

Why have you chosen the New Media Department?

Interview

In the interview section our admission jury will require you to talk about yourself, your interests, your hobbies, the pages you follow on Facebook, the films and series you like, the books you read, etc… You will also be asked to briefly explain why you have chosen the field of New Media as a profession…
